Our Investigative Team

Alain (Al) Proulx is the President and Senior Workplace Investigator of Scopic Consulting Inc., where he conducts independent workplace investigations for federal departments, Crown corporations, municipalities, Indigenous organizations, police services, regulatory bodies, and private-sector employers throughout Canada.

For more than three decades, Al has built a professional career dedicated to conducting complex investigations, leading investigative teams, and assisting organizations in understanding difficult and often sensitive workplace issues through fair, objective, and evidence-based investigative processes.

Since founding Scopic Consulting in 2018, his practice has focused almost exclusively on independent workplace investigations involving allegations of workplace harassment and violence, discrimination, abuse of authority, misconduct, retaliation, code of conduct breaches, and other matters requiring an impartial third-party investigator.

Al believes that the quality of an investigation is measured not simply by its findings, but by the fairness of the investigative process itself. Every investigation is approached with independence, careful preparation, respectful engagement, procedural fairness, and a commitment to understanding all relevant circumstances before reaching conclusions.

Prior to establishing Scopic Consulting, Al served for twenty-seven years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his policing career he held progressively senior investigative and leadership positions, including assignments involving major crime investigations, national security, investigative standards, interview team leadership, and operational supervision. Those experiences provided a strong investigative foundation that continues to inform his work as an independent workplace investigator while recognizing that workplace investigations require a distinct, non-criminal, administrative approach focused on fairness, understanding, and organizational decision-making.

Throughout his career, Al has worked collaboratively with legal counsel, Human Resources professionals, Labour Relations practitioners, union representatives, senior executives, and organizational decision-makers in conducting complex investigations and preparing objective, well-reasoned reports capable of supporting informed administrative decisions.

He believes that investigators earn credibility through professionalism, impartiality, respectful communication, and careful consideration of all available evidence—not by the conclusions they ultimately reach.

Scopic Consulting maintains a roster of qualified Lead Investigators whose collective experience reflects a broad range of investigative disciplines, including workplace harassment and violence, administrative and regulatory investigations, public-sector code of conduct matters, misconduct investigations, human rights matters, labour relations, and investigations conducted within complex unionized and non-unionized workplaces.

Investigator assignments are based on subject matter expertise, investigator availability, language capabilities, geographic location, and the absence of any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest. This approach enables Scopic to recommend the investigator whose experience is best suited to the unique requirements of each investigation.
